Our Company and the bail bond business in the North San Diego County area of Vista became active in the late 1950’s. We have the privilege of being the oldest and most established bail bond company in Vista, California. The family who started this Bail Bond company in 1959 still manage the business today. The man who started this established company played a major part in the beginnings of the bail bond business in the North San Diego County especially Vista.
The lessons taught by founder, Ben Dower, about going above and beyond what is expected in service, created the foundation to how we must treat every customer when they, their family or friends find themselves in jail and call Vista Bail Bonds® for bail.
In 1959, Ben Dower started his bail bond company in the North San Diego County area of Escondido before moving to Vista. He chose the name A&A Bail Bonds because it would always be the first name listed in every phone book. Ben liked to help people in need and quickly learned that people thrown in the “Pokey” were people in need of help! The bail bond business in the North San Diego area seemed like a good way to make some extra money, but Ben quickly learned that it meant a lot of extra hours, and not much extra pay.
Ben’s integrity, determination and drive (or stubbornness!), along with his natural charm, made him well-known and liked throughout San Diego County. He earned the respect of San Diego judges, DA’s, law enforcement, attorneys, biker’s and criminals alike. His upfront approach and willingness to go the extra mile just to help others made him highly-respected.
In 1967 Ben’s wife Virginia was approved to own “Vista Bail Bonds®” by the California Department of Insurance. In 1987 the company moved out of a small rundown house about a block from the Vista jail to what was known at that time as the Darth Vader building directly across the little traveled two lane Melrose Drive from the Vista jail. A lot has changed since then but Vista Bail Bonds still has their office in that same building which today is known as the 400 building of the Melrose Law Center directly across the heavily traveled four lane freeway-like Melrose Drive from the Vista jail.
Sadly Ben passed away in 1988 and the bail bond industry and community lost a remarkable person. He is still remembered today by the many people who were lucky enough to have known him. After Ben’s death, the family business, which had grown to include A&A Bail Bonds, North County Bail Bonds, Dower Bail Bonds and Vista Bail Bonds® was managed by Ben’s oldest son Brian Dower. Brian’s stepbrother Matthew had returned, part time, to help Brian work the bail business. In 1990 Virginia was granted approval by the CDOI to operate Vista Bail Bonds as a stand alone business.
On January 1st 1991, Virginia Dower handed Matthew the keys and Vista Bail Bonds® began doing business as a stand alone business outside the family bail bond operation. In 1993 Vista Bail Bonds® acquired the A&A Bail Bonds name and in 1997 both companies incorporated under Vista Bail Bonds Inc. In 2008 Vista Bail Bonds Inc was approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the name “Vista Bail Bonds®” (Trademark Registration #3,523,895) .
The bail agents still with Vista Bail Bonds® to this day are Matthew Demery, Michael Demery, Shane Gonzalez, David Demery and Virginia Demery-Dower.
Vista Bail Bonds® was one of the first to change the old Hollywood image of the smoke-filled, back alley shady looking bail bond office to a professional modern office where you and your family feel safe, comfortable and taken care of.
The trained and experienced professional agents of Vista Bail Bonds® Inc. provide information about the bail bond business to the interested public. We are leaders in the process of bailing someone out of jail while making it a safe, positive, and professional experience.
